|Newbie asks: How do you beat the inner couch-potato?

Hello! This is me, illariy – yet another newbie ;-). I’ve been following the entries in this journal for about 2 weeks and I think that’s a really great community! Now, why am I here?
Well, I recently finished school. When I was studying for my finals, I got into the habit of eating chocolate, tortilla chips etc. every evening. Every single evening, yes, indeed. And gained weight, of course. Now I want to lose those extra pounds through cutting down the evening snacks and working out. I’m vegetarian and eat lots of healthy food so I think that’ll be enough even though I’m already missing my snacks like hell.
The real problem is: How can I motivate myself to work out regularly? I’m originally an intellectual lazy-bones ;-) and mainly think of brisk walking for an hour on most days of the week, some gymnastics, ropeskipping and maybe swimming, though that would be expensive.
So, how do *you* beat the inner couch-potato?
NOTE: I can’t tell you my weight right now because I need to convert it first. My BMI is currently 21 when it used to be around 18.5 or 19. Argh…
